[ARCHIVED] Construction for the Week of August 3rd

Highway Division Updates

  • Last week, the Highway Division worked on pavement overlay projects on Cross Path Road, East Center Street, Fair Street, Front Street, Jackson Street and Leonard Street
  • Street sweeping continues in Ward 3
  • To report a pothole, please submit a request via the Pothole Repair Form; the largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles; as hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.

Bratton Court Sewer Reconstruction

  • The City has contracted with Geeleher Enterprises, Inc. for the reconstruction of approximately 300 linear feet of new sewer main, installation of two new sewer manholes and the reconnection of sewer services along Bratton Court in Florence
  • This project is part of the City’s continuing effort to improve and update municipal infrastructure
  • Work on the new sewer main was completed last week
  • Repaving is anticipated to occur in the later half of August; more information will be available in the following weeks

North Farms Road & North Maple Street Paving Project

  • The City has contracted with Palmer Paving Corp for pavement reclamation on North Farms Road, from the Williamsburg Town line to the intersection with North Maple & Mountain Streets, and North Maple Street, from Mountain Street to Bridge Road
  • The project will also include the following features:
    • Roadway drainage improvements on North Farms Road in the vicinity of Country Way
    • Repaving the walking path into the Fitzgerald Lake Conservation Area
    • Extending the North Maple Street sidewalk to provide continuous sidewalk from Bridge Road to Mountain Street
    • Radar speed signs at strategic locations on North Farms Road
    • A new crosswalk on Bridge Road connecting the Mountain Street sidewalk to the sidewalk along the south side of Bridge Road; this includes the installation of two rectangular rapid flashing beacons that will alert vehicles traveling on Bridge Road that pedestrians are crossing
  • Roadway drainage work in the vicinity of Country Way will begin this week; one-way traffic will be maintained at all times

Pine Street Bridge Repairs

  • The project will include structural repairs to the west end of the bridge; most of the work is below the bridge deck
  • The project has been awarded to Kodiak Corporation and is anticipated to be under construction this summer
  • Some traffic delays may occur during the project
  • More information on this project will be available in following weeks

Shared Use & Sidewalk Ramps Project

  • The project includes installing ADA compliant sidewalk ramps at the following locations:
    • The bike path at Chestnut Street and Keyes Street crossings
    • Center Street at Masonic and State Streets
    • Elm Street near Woodlawn Avenue
    • South Main Street at Pine Street
  • Final installation of signs, pavement markings and seeding will occur within the next few weeks
  • Funded by a Community Development Block Grant
  • Questions about the project should be directed to Wayne Feiden in the Office of Planning and Sustainability

Bridge Street, Damon Road, Interstate 91 - Exit 19

  • MassDOT has contracted with Baltazar Contractors, Inc. to construct a roundabout and associated improvements to the Interstate 91 - Exit 19 interchange at the base of the Coolidge Bridge
  • The project is scheduled to be completed by June 2021
  • Upcoming work includes ramp reconstruction, defining the roundabout geometry and initial paving; motorists should expect partial lane closures and changing traffic patterns as the project progresses
  • To facilitate construction and paving, a limited DETOUR will be in place starting Monday July 20th and remain in place 24/7 until at least August 7th
    • There will be limited traffic signaling and vehicles will begin to utilize an interim roundabout configuration
    • Traffic accessing Damon Road from Bridge Street and Exit 19 will be detoured over the bridge to Old Bay Road, Bay Road and then Route 9 back over the bridge
    • The detour is anticipated to be discontinued at the end of the week
    • Motorists should be alert to changing traffic patterns
