Returning Gardeners

Registrations for returning gardeners is due February 16, 2018.

New Gardener Registration

  • Saturday, March 24, 2018
  • Time: 9:00am-12:00pm
  • First-come, first-served at the Northampton Parks and Recreation Department Office, 100A Bridge Road, Florence. (enter the main entrance to JFK Middle School, bear to the right of the school to the grey modular building)

About the Community Garden

The Community Garden is located on Burts Pit Road, just beyond the old State Hospital. It is under the auspices of the Northampton Parks & Recreation Department and managed by a Garden Committee
  • There are seven acres of land dedicated to Community Garden.
  • The site is improved with a tool shed, fencing, shrub hedges, a composting area and running water.
  • There are 420 plots measuring 20 feet by 20 feet.
  • Registration is usually held on the last Saturday in March.
  • The Garden is managed and maintained completely by gardeners.
  • Each person contributes a minimum of two hours of volunteer help per year.

Plot Fee

First-year gardeners are limited to a single plot per household. Applicants may live outside Northampton; there is an additional fee.
  • The annual fee for a plot is $25.
  • New Gardeners may sign up for one plot.
  • Gardeners are expected to contribute two hours annually in community service tasks.

Directions to the Park & Rec Office

  • On the grounds of JFK Middle School go through the main enterance.
  • Drive to the right around the side of the school.
  • The Parks and Recreation office will be on the right towards the back of the parking area.
