The City's Community Choice Aggregation Program
The City of Northampton is collaborating with the communities of Pelham and Amherst to develop a consumer-friendly regional electricity program called Valley Green Energy. The program is an electricity aggregation, which is a type of group electricity buying program for cities and towns with no hidden fees or penalties. Through Valley Green Energy, the communities will use their collective buying power to:
- Buy electricity
- Provide stable electricity supply prices
- Increase the amount of renewable energy that is included in each community’s electricity supply
- Provide new electricity choices
Public presentation and comment period
The communities have developed an Aggregation Plan and other documents, which must be submitted to state regulators for review and approval. To ensure the public has an opportunity to be a part of developing this program, an overview of the program was presented at a virtual public information session on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at 6:30 PM.
In addition, all draft program documents were available for review and comment between June 1, 2023, and Friday, June 30, 2023.
Hard copies of the documents are available from the Northampton Office of Planning & Sustainability.
