The Northampton Water Division (NWD) is a municipally owned and operated public water utility system regulated by federal and state drinking water laws. The Department of Public Works is a member of two community based committees for the protection of watersheds and source supplies.
Water infrastructure is generally made up of watersheds, wells, reservoirs, a modern water filtration plant, water mains, water valves, fire hydrants, and water meters which are visited and read regularly.
In addition to supplying our drinking water, the NWD maintains city-wide fire protection standards, responds to emergencies (like water main breaks), and does everything possible to meet mandated water-testing standards.
