[ARCHIVED] TRAFFIC ALERT: MA Route 9/Coolidge Bridge Detour Plan

Starting Monday, July 20, 2020, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, as part of the project to complete a necessary portion of the work for the rotary at the Coolidge Bridge, is implementing a Detour Plan. As part of that plan:

  • Message Boards will be placed to notify the public prior to start.

  • The Detour will be in effect 24/7.

  • The estimated duration is 2 weeks.

  • All Interstate 91 traffic wishing to go onto Damon Rd or Bridge St will be diverted east into Hadley, over the bridge and then back into Northampton.

  • All Damon Rd traffic will be allowed to turn left or right onto the Coolidge Bridge or onto Bridge St.

  • Eastbound Bridge St. traffic will be allowed to go straight onto the Coolidge Bridge into Hadley but NOT left onto Damon Rd.

  • The detour will be applied 24/7, but Police Details will only be scheduled during work hours 7AM to 3PM. The roads will not be opened back up for normal traffic during the evening hours.

Questions about the project should be directed to MassDOT District 2
