Highway Division Updates
- Last week, the Highway Division repaired potholes on Coles Meadow Road, Loudville Road, Meadow Street, North Loudville Road and Prospect Street; box paving was done on Old Ferry Road
- To report a pothole, please submit a request via the Pothole Repair Form; the largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles; as hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed
- Street sweeping continues in Ward 6; Ward 5 will be next
Bratton Court Sewer Reconstruction
- The City has contracted with Geeleher Enterprises, Inc. for the reconstruction of approximately 300 linear feet of new sewer main, installation of two new sewer manholes and the reconnection of sewer services along Bratton Court in Florence
- This project is part of the City’s continuing effort to improve and update municipal infrastructure
- A Public Works representative will be on site frequently during construction to monitor progress and quality of work and to field questions and concerns.
- The project is anticipated to start the week of June 22nd; the street will be closed to vehicles during work hours, 7:00 am to 4:00 pm
North Farms Road & North Maple Street Paving Project
- The City has contracted with Palmer Paving Corp for pavement reclamation on North Farms Road, from the Williamsburg Town line to the intersection with North Maple & Mountain Streets, and North Maple Street, from Mountain Street to Bridge Road.
- The project will also include the following features:
- Roadway drainage improvements on North Farms Road in the vicinity of Country Way
- Repaving the walking path into the Fitzgerald Lake Conservation Area
- Extending the North Maple Street sidewalk to provide continuous sidewalk from Bridge Road to Mountain Street
- Radar speed signs at strategic locations on North Farms Road
- A new crosswalk on Bridge Road connecting the Mountain Street sidewalk to the sidewalk along the south side of Bridge Road; this includes the installation of two rectangular rapid flashing beacons that will alert vehicles traveling on Bridge Road that pedestrians are crossing
- The project is anticipated to start within the next few weeks.
Shared Use & Sidewalk Ramps Project
- The project includes installing ADA compliant sidewalk ramps at the following locations:
- The bike path at the Chestnut Street and Keyes Street crossings
- Center Street at Masonic and State Streets
- Elm Street near Woodlawn Avenue
- Work will continue this week at the west side of the corner of State and Center Streets followed by Elm Street near Woodlawn Avenue
- The project is anticipated to be completed by mid-summer 2020
- Funded by a Community Development Block Grant

Pine Street Bridge Repairs
- The project will include structural repairs to the west end of the bridge; most of the work is below the bridge deck
- The project is currently being bid and is anticipated to be under construction this summer (for up to two weeks)
- Some traffic delays may occur during the project
- More information on this project will be available in following weeks
Bridge Street, Damon Road, Interstate 91 - Exit 19
- MassDOT has contracted with Baltazar Contractors, Inc. to construct a roundabout and associated improvements to the Interstate 91 - Exit 19 interchange at the base of the Coolidge Bridge
- The project is scheduled to be completed by June 2021
- Upcoming work includes ramp reconstruction, defining the roundabout geometry and initial paving; motorists should expect partial lane closures and changing traffic patterns as the project progresses
- Questions about the project should be directed to MassDOT District 2
Burts Pit Road, Pump Station Generator
- The City has contracted with Elm Electric to replace the standby generator for the Burts Pit Road sewer pump station; the project includes utility transformer upgrades and a new service connection
- Trenching for the new service and preliminary setup work for the generator will occur this week
- The project is expected to be complete within a month
