On Saturday, April 30, The Northampton Reuse Committee will hold a Recycling & Reuse Rally from 9am-12 PM at Smith Vocational High School, 80 Locust Street. The event is free and open to the public. Styrofoam, pellet bags, bicycles, and bulky, rigid, plastic items will be collected for reuse or recycling. Secure document shredding will be available. Details are provided below.
Bulky rigid plastic
Collected bulky rigid plastic items will first be made available to the public for reuse; remaining items will be recycled.
Bring: Large, RIGID plastic items such as laundry baskets, pet carriers, lawn furniture, yard toys (e.g. Little Tykes), and plastic flower pots.
Do not bring: items made of PVC (e.g. pipes), flexible/crinkly plastic (e.g. hoses, seedling packs), and containers which have held hazardous material.
Styrofoam® (AKA expanded polystyrene or EPS)
Bring: Large pieces of clean, dry, rigid white EPS with no attached paper or plastic.
Do not bring: Soft foam, colored or food-related foam (contamination risks), packing peanuts.
Pellet Bags
Bring: Empty, dry and relatively clean plastic bags from wood stove pellets. To transport, stack 8-12 empty bags, roll the stack and place each roll in a single pellet bag.
Do not bring: Dirty or wet bags or bags from other products (e.g. animal feed/food, birdseed, potting soil)
Bicycles (via Bikes not Bombs)
Bring: All varieties of two-wheeled bicycles (some broken pieces OK), bicycle parts, tools and accessories (e.g. helmets, lights, pumps, locks).
Do not bring: Weather beaten or rusted bicycles, kick-scooters, motorized & exercise bikes, tricycles.
A $10 donation to Bikes not Bombs to offset refurbishing and shipping costs is requested.

Participants may bring up to two curbside recycling bin-sized boxes of personal documents.
Bring: Clean and dry personal or confidential documents (financial & medical records, legal papers, credit card statements, income tax files, and cancelled checks). Staples and paper clips are OK.
Do not bring: Wet or mildewed paper, plastic folders and plastic page dividers.
Pellet bags, Styrofoam, and bulky rigid plastic are NOT accepted via normal household recycling methods. They are part of a developing recycling market recently impacted by low petroleum prices.
