[ARCHIVED] Community Tag Sale Makes Selling Easy

The Reuse Committee’s Autumn Community Tag Sale & Swap Meet may be the key for hundreds of Northampton residents who procrastinate holding yard sales. Sellers register via the Northampton Department of Public Works for the Saturday, October 11 event, which will be held in Smith Vocational High School’s rear parking lot from 9 am to Noon (rain date 10/18/2014). A reasonable $10 non-refundable seller participation fee offsets advertising costs. Community members need only load a vehicle, drive to the site and set up in an assigned parking space. Information and registration forms are available at www.northamptonma.gov/reduce-waste. Seller applications will be accepted on a first-come, first served basis through Wednesday, October 9.

While a limited number of spots for sellers exist, the entire community is welcome to attend, browse, and purchase.

The goal of this event is to reduce the stream of trash that flows from our community to distant landfills (such as Seneca Meadows in New York’s Finger Lakes region, a four-hour, 270 mile haul). Making the sale of household goods painless for residents of greater Northampton is one way to make that happen. The Committee encourages sellers to offer some items free of charge to encourage reuse of durable, low-value items.
