[ARCHIVED] Construction for the Week of May 17th


Highway Division Updates

  • Last week, the Highway Division:
    • Repaired potholes on: Armory St Lot, Cross Path Rd, Dryads Green, Fair St, Florence Rd, Greenleaf Dr, Hampton Ave Lot, Henry St, Henshaw Ave, Jackson St, Longfellow Dr, Norwood Ave, and Spring St Ext
    • Paved sections of: Burts Pit Rd Ext, Mulberry St, O'Donnell Dr, Pine Valley Rd, River Rd, and Venturers Field Rd
    • Replaced signs on: Cherry St, Cross St, Florence Rd, Ford Xing, King St, Musante Dr, Mulberry St, Pine Valley Rd, Pleasant St, Rick Dr, Sumner Ave, Sylvester Rd, Village Hill Rd, and Walnut St
    • Completed sewer and drain repairs on: Cardinal Way, Henry St, and Jackson St
    • Removed refuse from Hawley St and debris from Bridge St/Main St railroad bridge
  • Street sweeping has begun in Ward 4; street sweeping schedule for 2021 by ward will be in the following order: 5, 4, 3, 2, 7, 1, 6
  • To report a pothole, please submit a request via the Pothole Repair Form; the largest potholes are filled first to alleviate hazards to vehicles; as hazards arise and are identified, they will be addressed.

Atwood Drive Water Main Replacement

  • The City has contracted with GEG Construction, Inc. for roadway reconstruction and water line replacement on Atwood Drive
  • The installation of the new water main and service connections is complete
  • The contractor will continue reclaiming and rebuilding the roadway this week with possible final paving
  • Officers will assist with traffic control and one-way alternating traffic will be maintained at all times; traffic flow may be directed into the parking lots to access the medical and court buildings

Beacon Street Sewer Repair

  • The City has contracted with Geeleher Enterprises, Inc. to repair a deep sewer main on Beacon Street
  • Work will include excavation within the right-of-way
  • Work will continue and be completed this week, weather permitting
  • Travel may be restricted to a single lane; officers will assist with traffic control

Bridge Street Cemetery

  • The City has contracted with Hastie Fence Co. to replace fencing at Bridge Street Cemetery
  • The project includes:
    • Removing a 900 foot section of existing chain link fence that runs along Bridge Street and a portion of Parsons Street and replacing it with a more historically appropriate tubular steel fence
    • Replacing historic entrance gates on Bridge Street and Parsons Street

  • Work on punch list items will be ongoing through the spring months

Bridge Street, Damon Road, Interstate 91 - Exit 19

  • MassDOT has contracted with Baltazar Contractors, Inc. to construct a roundabout and associated improvements to the Interstate 91 - Exit 19 interchange at the base of the Coolidge Bridge
  • The project is scheduled to be completed by June 2021
  • Baltazar will be paving the shared use path and raising structures in preparation for final paving
  • Alternating lane closures will be in effect on Route 9 eastbound and westbound in addition to alternating traffic on Damon Road
  • Motorists should expect traffic delays; officers will assist with traffic control
  • Questions about the project should be directed to MassDOT District 2, project #604597

Damon Road Reconstruction

  • MassDOT has contracted with Gagliarducci Construction, Inc. to reconstruct Damon Road from the bike path to just beyond the intersection with King Street, North King Street and Bridge Road
  • The project will provide intersection and traffic signal improvements, extended sidewalks, a shared use path and other safety improvements
  • The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2023
  • Utility relocation, drainage improvements and water & sewer replacement will occur prior to full depth roadway reconstruction
  • Gagliarducci will continue working on drainage and concrete headwalls on the eastern end of the project
  • Travel will be restricted to a single lane as needed; officers will assist with traffic control

King Street Corridor Improvements

  • MassDOT has contracted with Morais Concrete Service, Inc. to construct roadway improvements to King Street between Bright Street and Church Street
  • The project will provide lane reconfiguration, bicycle and pedestrian improvements, landscaping and drainage improvements and new traffic signals at North & Summer Streets and Finn Street at both King and State Streets
  • The project is scheduled to be completed in phases by Fall 2022
  • Drainage work will continue this week between Church & Finn Streets and Bright & North Streets
  • Two-way traffic will be maintained with a southbound lane closure as needed; officers will assist with traffic control

North Farms Road

  • The City contracted with Palmer Paving Corp last year (2020) for pavement reclamation and drain improvements on North Farms Road and North Maple Street
  • The contractor or their subcontractors may be on North Farms Road or at Fitzgerald Lake this week finishing up contracted work, such as laying porous asphalt on the Fitzgerald Lake path, installing a pavement patch near Country Way or working on various punch list items
