Food Permits & Fees

All Food Service Permits have specific requirements that must be met prior to application approval. These requirements are found in the Food Establishment Sanitary Standards (PDF).

All Food Service Permits (excluding Temporary Food Service and Frozen Dessert) expire on December 31. Renewal notices are sent in November to the mailing address listed on the application.

All applications require a Workers' Compensation Affidavit (PDF).

Many applications require Food Protection (or ServSafe) and Allergen Awareness Certification.

All permit applications require 10 business days to process.

Food Service Plan Review (PDF)
$150 minimum.
$150 for basic permit + seating charge. Seating charge is $25 per increment of 25 chairs, up to 100 chairs; and $50 per increment of 50 chairs over 100 chairs.
Proof of ServSafe and Allergen Awareness Certification is required.
Includes bakery, cafes, taverns, bars, clubs, luncheonettes, restaurants, hotels, dessert establishments, inns, and hotels.

This form needs to be submitted prior to construction or remodeling of a Food Service Establishment.
Please include Site Plan, Floor Plan, and Proposed Menu and allow 5 business days for review.
Contact the Health Department to schedule a pre-operational inspection.

Frozen Desert (PDF)$5 - This permit runs from March 1 through February 28

Mobile Food (PDF)$150
Proof of ServSafe and Allergen Awareness Certification is required. Also required is approved Base of Operations.
Re-inspection$75
After the second re-inspection, all food re-inspections have an additional fee.
Residential Kitchen (PDF)$150
Food prepared in a residential kitchen.
Proof of ServSafe and Allergen Awareness Certification is required.
Retail Food (PDF)$100 minimum plus square footage fee - see chart included with application.. Includes markets, variety stores, candy shops, delis, and water sales.
Temporary Food Event (PDF)Non-Northampton based food vendor: $100
Northampton based food vendor: $50
Non-profit vendor (with proof of non-profit status): Waived
For Events: Permits are valid for up to 14 days.
For Farmers' Markets: Permits are valid for the season of the individual market.
Permits must be submitted 14 business days prior to the event or a $100 late fee will be assessed.
