Veterans Council of Northampton Announces 2022 Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony Annual day of remembrance honors those who died in military service to the United States during peace and war NORTHAMPTON

Today, the Veterans Council of Northampton announces that the 2022 Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony will be held on Monday, May 30, 2022 in Florence. The parade will kick-off at about 10:10 a.m. from Trinity Row and will conclude in the Park Street Cemetery, where the ceremony will immediately begin.

The Veterans Council of Northampton, as well as Central Hampshire Veteran Services, have planned this year’s remembrance with marching units from VFW Post 8006 DAV Chapter 92 and American Legion Post 288, as well as, veterans from VA Central Western Massachusetts Medical Center and residents of Soldier On. Northampton Police and Fire departments will be represented, as well as Mayor Gina-Louise Sciarra and other city officials. There will also be several civic and youth organizations participating as in previous years.

The ceremony will honor our deceased men and women in uniform who endured incredible sacrifices, and for some, the ultimate sacrifice of giving their life for the country. This year’s special guests will be the family members of Michel J. Netto and Edward S. Mazuch. The Massachusetts Medal of Liberty is awarded in the name of the Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as Commander-in-Chief of the Commonwealth to any Massachusetts service men or women killed in action or who died as a result of wounds received in action. There will be a performance of the Northampton High School Band and members of the JFKeys choral group during the ceremony.

The President of the United States of America proclaims May 30, 2022, a National Day of Remembrance. He encourages all Americans to observe this solemn day of remembrance and to honor our military, past and present, with appropriate ceremonies and activities. All Federal agencies and interested organizations, groups, and individuals shall fly the flag of the United States at half-staff this May 30 in honor of those American patriots who died as a result of their service.

We look forward to seeing you there and encourage all citizens to remember the meaning of Memorial Day in honoring those who died in military service to our nation. Lest we forget...
