Green Business Leader Award
For leadership toward the goal of a sustainable Northampton through significant improvements in energy efficiency, which supports local jobs, improves human health and comfort, and invests in Northampton’s buildings while it reduces greenhouse gas emissions, air and water pollution, reliance on imported energy, and risk from energy price spikes and supply disruptions.
On September 25, 2012, Mayor David J Narkewicz presented Green Business Leader Awards to Rich Madowitz, co-owner of Hampshire Property Management Group for ongoing investments in improved energy efficiency of properties managed by Hampshire Property Management and for support of similar investments in tenants’ businesses. Recent improvements include energy efficient lighting, improved insulation, upgraded windows and converting Thornes Marketplace from heating oil to natural gas, a fuel with lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Also receiving an award was Rich Cooper, owner of State Street Market and Cooper's Corner for a steady investment in energy efficient technologies at Cooper’s Corner and State Street Market including improved lighting, refrigeration upgrades, added insulation and air sealing, high-efficiency air conditioning, and nighttime retractable insulating curtains for all open face coolers; and for planning for future energy efficiency investments.
On September 25, 2012, Mayor Narkewicz also recognized the following businesses for investing in energy efficiency improvements as part of the first year of the Northampton Leading the Way Commercial Initiative.
