Northampton Parks & Recreation Virtual Fitness Challenge

...is back this fall! Tie up those laces and starting working out those miles. This Virtual Ultra Fitness challenge is open to all ages and all abilities. Unlike traditional Ultra marathons (50k or 31miles), this one will be completed over the next 31 days. You can complete this challenge by walking, running, biking, or just working out! All participants are expected to log their time and/or miles and will be provided a time to mile converter formula. The first 35 participants to complete the challenge will receive a medal!

Join in anytime before it ends! Last date to submit miles will be October 31, 2020. 

Many things may be closed or modified, but the sidewalks, bike paths and parks are now open! There’s no better way to social distance you or your family than going for a walk or hike around the neighborhood, going on a bike ride, or following along to a workout video,! The first 35 participants to complete the challenge will receive a medal

The rules are easy:

  • Sign up by 
    • Emailing us at rlearnard@northamptonma.gov, 
      • In return, you will be sent the mileage log sheet to update and complete.
    • After completing the Virtual Ultra Fitness Challenge please complete this Google Form
      •  Click here for link
      • If you reach 50K and want to keep going, keep tracking and submit the total at the end!
  • Exercise 
    • Choose the way you exercise and log your miles.
      • Run, walk, bike, hike, complete workouts on your own time at your own pace.
  • Keep track and Log 
    • Track and log your miles or track and log your minutes

  • Goal
    • complete (& have fun with) the Virtual Ultra Fitness challenge by exercising and logging the 50 kilometers/31 miles
      • Remember no later than October 31!
  • Capture it!
    • capture your journey in this Virtual Ultra by taking a photo. Either tag us on Instagram/Facebook or email the photo to recreation@northamptonma.gov
  • Submit your mile log (by October 31)
    • After completing the Virtual Ultra Fitness Challenge please complete this Google Form to submit your entry

Please submit one complete form per person with all the miles logged, once you have completed the full 50K/31 miles.

Mile Converter Info

If you’d rather lift weights, go for a family walk, or follow a workout video online, you still get rewarded. Minutes go by 15 minute increments with each 15 min = .75 miles. The form has an easy calculation to convert minutes to miles if you choose to use minutes instead of miles.

Calculation: X min divided by 15 multiplied by .75 = X Miles
Examples: 15 Min=.75 Miles / 30 Min=1.5 Miles / 45 Min=2.25 Miles / 60 Min=3 Miles


If you reach 50K and want to keep going, keep tracking and submit the total at the end!

Remember to wear a mask and stay socially distant as appropriate.
